Third graders in Mrs. Yakuel and Mr. Ferrara's class recently invited parents to a special Publishing Party, celebrating the culmination of their "Art of Information Writing" unit. As part of this project, students wrote nonfiction expert books.

The process began with brainstorming a list of possible expert topics, where students explored writing about subjects they were passionate about and had knowledge of. After selecting a topic, each student filled out a graphic organizer, planning their book with four chapters, two subheadings per chapter, and three to five technical terms per chapter.

Next, students used these organizers to draft their books, incorporating main ideas and supporting details. Writing partners collaborated to revise and edit each other's work, ensuring clarity and accuracy. Finally, the books were published using Book Creator, allowing students to structure their books like "real" nonfiction books you might find in a library. To enhance their projects, students even included video links to complement their text.

The books were a huge success, and the students thoroughly enjoyed using Book Creator to transform their drafts into polished, visually stunning books!
